Remnants of Remembrance
A therapeutic art workshop exploring memory, loss, and transformation

Dawn Grant

Participants are invited to bring a meaningful object, photograph, piece of jewellery, small statue, letter or keepsake that is connected to a loved one who has transitioned. These personal remnants become the starting point for creating something new.

A photograph may become part of a collage, a piece of jewellery may be reworked into a necklace, broach or earrings. A familiar object may be transformed into something that speaks to the qualities, stories, gestures or moments that made a loved one unique.

All materials will be provided outside of items brought in remembrance.

Sponsored by the National accessArts Centre

Rhythms of Nine-Night

Lanise Lywood

Nine-Night is a cornerstone of Jamaican culture. This presentation provides an introductory lesson on the rhythm of its development over time — from its West African origins as a funerary tradition, to its evolution into a significant expression of Afro-Caribbean spirituality and community healing in Jamaica.
